Use existing software supplied on the Promethean board for reading, writing and math. For reading and writing, bring up letters on the board, and as you press on the letter it is voiced through the stereo system. The children can then say the letter aloud and write it down. They can also come up to the board and write it with their fingers or the special pens supplied. You can write short words such as "the" or "and" on the board and ask the children to come up and copy it on the board. Add images with other words such as "dog" or "cat." These are generally supplied with the board and will make the sound of the animal.
Find the math resource and bring up numbers which are voiced through the stereo system. Again, ask the children to copy the number on paper and come up to copy the number on the board with their fingers or special pens provided. Young children can even do small sums, such as "1 + 1" or "2 + 2." The math resource will insert the answer when you click on it.
Use the Internet to access resources for pre-kindergarten children. This helps them with their computer skills as well as other learning. Learning games are available for children to play using a mouse on the laptop linked to the Promethean board; these games can be used straight from the Internet. Demonstrate to the children how you use the Internet.
Put educational DVDs in your computer to show on the Promethean board. Get the children involved in the songs, nursery rhymes and stories.
