Paint the room in bright colors, displaying different hues and tones throughout the color spectrum. Use fabrics with different textures to hang along windows so that the children can feel the differences and similarities between the textures.
Set up the room with several small sitting areas so that the children can work in small groups of two or three. These areas can be made up with chairs, bean bag chairs and small tables.
Set up large worktable for the kids to work on projects together in large groups and also to involve children from other classrooms.
Display the children's projects and artwork along the walls, hanging throughout the rooms, placed in display cases or on tables. Place the artwork, projects and student's collections at both adult and child eye level.
Incorporate live plants throughout the classroom.
Create a common space for the children to have creative play. This space may include a stage and dress-up clothes, puppets or any other imagination-stimulating items.
