How to Design Your Early Childhood Classroom

When you are preparing to teach preschool children, it is important to organize and design your classroom to suit their needs. Preschoolers can benefit from taking part in interactive activities that allow them to expand their minds through creative play. To help accomplish this, arrange your early elementary classroom to include a painting and drawing station, block-building station and doll play station.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a basket of wooden blocks on the floor for the children to build structures with, such as pretend castles or barnyards. Make sure the wooden blocks are sanded smooth to prevent splinters.

    • 2

Set up an art area that will enable the youngsters to explore their creativity. Place a few easels that are child-sized, spill-proof jars of non-toxic paint, large painbrushes and baskets of markers and crayons. Stock a large supply of plain craft paper for the children to use for painting or drawing.

    • 3

Arrange an area with soft dolls, doll beds or cradles and doll blankets. Doll play, by both girls and boys, encourages compassion and responsibility. Select dolls of nontoxic materials.
