Distribute aluminum pie pans, two each, or juice cans to the preschoolers. Provide the students with handfuls of popcorn kernels or dried beans. Instruct the students to fill their pie pan or can with their kernels or beans. Seal the two aluminum plates together with a hot-glue gun or tape. Seal the opening in the juice cans with strips of tape. Once all the rattles are complete have the children make their own music and dance around the room to the beats.
Clip a comic strip out of the newspaper for each student. Tape the comic strip to the top of a piece of construction paper. Distribute the comic strips to the students and instruct them to look at the pictures. Go child to child and have each one describe to you what is going on in each comic book square. Write the child's interpretation below each picture. Read back to the preschoolers the comic book tales they constructed.
Arm each child with a piece of construction paper and chalk and send them out into the school yard. Instruct them to take samples of different textures and items they find in the yard by laying the paper over the object and rubbing chalk over the paper. This will transfer the texture and shape of the objects they find. For example, the students can use sticks, concrete, rocks and toys for the project. Display each child's findings to the class along with explanations as to what created the shapes and textures on the paper.
Give each child a bowl and pre-portioned ingredients for making play dough. Each child will need one part flour, one part water and two parts oatmeal. Instruct the students to mix all the ingredients together in the bowl with their hands. Once an even mixture is formed the students can play with the homemade play dough as they would normal play dough.
