Pre-School Art Activities Dealing With Boats

Young children absorb information like sponges, and every daily activity can be turned into a learning opportunity. Using arts and crafts to teach children about different concepts is a popular way to engage their attention, promote dexterity, and have fun. Themed projects, such as arts activities dealing with boats, are especially loved by preschool-aged children.
  1. Boat Shape

    • Draw two different sized triangles for the sails, a long, thin rectangle for the mast, and a half circle for the hull of the boat, each on a different colored piece of construction paper. Have the children cut out each shape with safety scissors, then assemble the shapes to make a boat. Using glue sticks, have the children glue their boats onto a plain white sheet of paper, and use blue crayons, or crumpled blue tissue paper to create the ocean on which the boat is sailing.

    Paper Plate Boats

    • Have the children cut a paper plate in half using safety scissors, and allow them to decorate the plate however they like using stickers, markers, crayons, paints, glitter, and stamps. Ask them to write their name on the paper plate as the boat's name. Get them to practice drawing a large triangle on a piece of construction paper, and have them cut it out. Again, allow them decorate the sail. Let the children tape a straw to the middle of the back of the boat, then the triangle to the top of the straw, making a paper plate boat with a sail.
