Paint a wall-full of balloon art, using balloons as the paintbrushes. Fill the balloons halfway with air. Leave "squishing room" in the balloon so that small hands can grasp it. Set out one paper plate for each half-filled balloon. Place a blob of paint in the center of each paper plate. Match the paint colors to the colors of the balloons. Set a red balloon on the red paint-plate and a blue balloon on the blue paint-plate. Dip the balloons in the paint and stamp and swirl the color onto white, poster size paper.
Tear ordinary newspaper into 1-inch wide strips of various lengths to dip into a home-made water-and-flour "glue." Mix one cup of water and one cup of all-purpose flour to a smooth consistency, then add four cups of boiling water to the mixture and stir over low heat for three minutes. Let it cool to room temperature. Dip the strips, one at a time, into the mixture. Wipe off the excess glue, then gently lay each strip onto the balloon until it is covered with paper. Allow this layer to dry for 24 hours. Apply two more layers, letting each layer dry completely before you apply the next. Use the resulting hardened sphere to make round crafts. Brush on blue and green paint to create a globe. Make a jack-o-lantern with orange and black paints or an octopus with green paint and eight green crepe paper streamers glued to the bottom.
Mix up a batch of paper mache "glue" to make a bird-cage craft from a balloon and yarn. Cut 18-inch lengths of any color of yarn and dip them into the glue, then wipe off the excess. Wind the yarn around the balloon until the appearance of the yarn is like a net and the balloon is still visible. Allow it to dry overnight or longer until the yarn is stiff. Pop the balloon and remove it from the yarn bird cage. Draw and cut a bird shape from construction paper and roll it up, then push it through a gap in the cage. Tie a 12-inch length of yarn to the top of the cage to hang and display it.
