Five Senses Art Activities

Preschool children use their five senses to become familiar with the world around them. Reinforce the use of sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste in an arts-and-crafts project with your preschool children. Caution should be used when incorporating food items into artistic projects. Use nontoxic supplies, such as glue, to create the crafts.
  1. Pudding Fingerpaint

    • Pudding can be used as finger paint in a sensory activity.

Preschoolers can use vanilla pudding mixed with food coloring as a sensory art activity. This nontraditional art supply can be eaten but do so before painting with it or use a separate pudding mixture for snack time.

    Cereal Rainbow

    • Arrange fruity cereal rings in the shape of a rainbow.

Children can draw a rainbow outline on a piece of white construction paper and glue circular-shaped cereal pieces in red, yellow, orange, green, blue and purple colors to their designated arches. The activity is adaptable to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with green clovers, as well as being a sensory art project.

    Crayon Rubbings

    • Rub paper-free crayons over different textured materials.

Place a thin, white piece of printer paper over various textured items to include sandpaper, leaves and coins. Use the side of unwrapped crayons to rub over the paper. The different textures appear on the printer paper.
