Children's Paper Activities

Paper crafts are a great and inexpensive way for children in the classroom, or at home, to express themselves. Use paper crafts as a way to occupy the children's time, or as a vehicle for teaching and learning.
  1. Paper Shakers

    • For this activity, each child will need two paper plates, some glue and something to go inside the paper plates to make noise. Some suggestions include beans and seeds, although anything that will make noise without ripping the plate works. The children will place the seeds or beans in the middle of one plate, place a ring of glue around the plate and stick the other plate on top of it. The children can then further decorate their new creation by placing stickers or ribbons or coloring the paper plates.

    Paper Dolls

    • Paper dolls are a great way for children to stretch their imagination. If the children have a high aptitude for drawing, they can draw a paper doll on stiff construction paper free-hand. If the child needs assistance, he can use the fashion figures obtained online to trace. Once finished with the tracing, the children cut out the dolls. Using their paper dolls as a measurement, the children will then create clothes for the paper dolls. If they would like, they can color clothing and tabs so that the clothing will only be temporary, or they can glue the paper dolls' clothing onto them and make a collage of their family members or friends.

    Wreath of Hands

    • This activity works well for a family with many children or a classroom--and when a holiday is impending. Each child in your family or classroom will trace their hand on a piece of paper. Once their hand is traced, they will color it any color they like. However, if a holiday is nearing and you wish to make a holiday-specific wreath, give the children extras, such as candy hearts or stickers, to place on the hands. In addition, students can be given a specific color theme to use. Once the children have decorated their hands, they will cut them out and place them in a wreath shape with thumbs to pinky fingers. Glue them together and add a festive ribbon. Place the wreath somewhere special in your home or classroom.
