Use a marker to write the numbers 11 through 20, or whatever number you wish to teach through, on individual pieces of paper. On each page, draw a number of dots corresponding to the written number. For example, on the page with the number 11, draw 11 dots. Place the pages in sequential order. Create a set of number pages for each child with whom you are working.
Provide the child or children with an assortment of stamps and stamp pads. Place the pile of number pages next to each child.
Instruct the child or children to take the first page from the top of the pile. Explain that the number on this page is called 11 and it comes after 10. Count the number of dots on the page aloud with the child or children.
Tell the child or children to press a stamp onto the ink pad and press the stamp on each dot on the page, counting aloud with each stamp.
Repeat the process for each number page. Assemble the pages in a pile and staple the left side of the piles together, forming a book. Children can use their books to practice counting beyond 10.
Use a marker to write the numbers from 11 up to whatever number you wish to teach on individual index cards.
Insert each index card into a page of a photo album. Tie one end of a piece of yarn around a dry-erase marker. Tape the other end of the yarn to the inside of the back page of the photo album.
Instruct the child or children to use the dry-erase marker to trace each of the numbers in the book while saying the name of the number aloud.
Erase the dry-erase marker from the pages of the photo album. Allow the child or children to trace the numbers in the book as many times as desired while saying each number.
