How to Make a Preschool Classroom Job Chart

Children typically enjoy helping their teachers. With a few supplies that you likely already have on hand, you can organize the classroom jobs so that all children participate equally. As they work to complete their jobs, preschoolers will feel important to the class, pride in a job well done and a sense of community among their peers.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Write the jobs you will assign your students on a poster board. List them in a column down the left side of the poster. Include, for example, door holder, line leader, snack helper, calendar helper and table washer. Make sure to leave a space for assigning the jobs to each student.

    • 2

Draw a picture to the right of each job on the poster board. For example, next to "door holder" draw a picture of a door, next to "line leader" draw a picture of a few children in a line with an arrow pointing to the first child, next to "snack helper" draw a picture of juice and a cookie, a calendar next to "calendar helper" and a table with a wash cloth on it next to "table washer." These pictures help students who cannot read identify what job they are supposed to do.

    • 3

Stick a square of hook and loop fastener next to each job on the poster board.

    • 4

Print a two-inch picture of each of your students and glue it to a cut-out of a star. Write each student's name on his star. Laminate the stars or use contact paper and stick a square of hook and loop fastener on the back of each one.

    • 5

Cut out a long strip of poster board and stick squares of hook and loop fastener in a column on the poster. Attach the stars with your students' pictures to the hook and loop fastener on the poster board. When you are finished, you will have one long strip with all of your students' stars.

    • 6

Hang both poster boards near where you conduct circle time or morning meetings.

    • 7

Choose one student for each job every day and place those students' stars on the job chart next to the chosen job. Make sure to rotate which students get which jobs so that all of your students have a chance to participate in each classroom job.
