Print out a picture of sheep grazing in the pasture. Let the preschool children color the picture with crayons or put aprons on them and let them paint. Add texture to the sheep by gluing cotton balls onto the bodies of the sheep. Use yarn for hair on any people in the picture. Use brown yarn for a shepherd’s staff. Print out a picture of a lamb with the face looking outward. Have the preschool children color and otherwise decorate the picture. Cut out the face of the sheep. Replace with the picture of the preschooler. Let the children pretend to be sheep as you tell them all about the animals.
Create sheep themed frames. Before starting the craft, cut a picture frame from a sheet of plain card stock. Make the width of the frame 2 inches. Print out a variety of sheep illustration outlines and have the children color and cut them out. They can add cotton balls for texture. Preschoolers can decorate the frames with crayons and glitter pens, and glue one or more sheep around the frame. Glue three sides of this frame to a piece of cardboard, leaving one side open to slip in a picture. Create a 3-D frame from a cereal box. Fasten the top closed with tape and cut out the front, leaving a 3 inch frame. Cover the outside with ribbon and construction paper. The preschool children can cut out pictures of sheep from magazines or from pictures you download for them and print out to decorate their frame. Glue a picture inside the frame to the back of the box facing outward.
For this craft, use toilet rolls or cut and roll pieces of card stock into tubes. Cut two craft sticks in half horizontally. File down the ends to make them smooth and glue them onto the roll for legs. Add a ping-pong head. Glue it onto the end of the roll and mark eyes and nose with a marker. Glue cotton balls all over the body and tuck them into the back of the tube. Glue on a short black tail. The preschool children can also color and cut out several sheep to create a herd. Glue the sheep to upright toilet rolls. This helps the sheep stand up so they can be moved around the pasture.
Print out an outline of a sheep using the entire sheet of paper. Transfer the outline to felt. Give each preschooler two sheep to cut out and decorate. Add glue around the edges of one sheep, leaving a 3-inch gap on one side. Add the second outline and glue them together. When dry, show the preschool how to carefully stuff the sheep with cotton balls. Glue the opening closed to create a stuffed sheep craft. This craft can also be created from paper, though it won’t last as long.
