How to Make Noisemakers With Toddlers

Toddlers don't usually need any help making noise, but they may still enjoy making and using a homemade noisemaker. Since toddlers have limited fine motor skills, use simple objects that don't require advanced skills. Make seasonal noisemakers by adding holiday stickers to the noisemakers. After you make the noisemakers, teach your toddlers how to use them. Turn on a song with a steady beat and show your toddlers how to keep time using their new creations.

Instructions

  1. Basic Bottle Noisemaker

    • 1

Let your toddler decorate the bottle with stickers. Add your own flair with markers or paints. Alternatively, you can cover the bottle in colored paper and help your toddler tape the paper to the bottle, leaving the end open so you can remove the lid.

    • 2

Remove the lid from the plastic bottle for your toddler.

    • 3

Help your toddler add dry rice, beans or other shelf-stable, noisemaking items to the bottle.

    • 4

Replace the lid. If your bottle has a screw-on lid, make sure it is tightly in place and tape around the outside. If not, be sure that you use plenty of tape to secure the lid in place.

    Mini Shakers

    • 5

Help your toddlers decorate the outside of an empty film canister and a wooden craft stick with colored vinyl tape.

    • 6

Fill the film canisters halfway with small beans, lentils or rice.

    • 7

Cut a small slit in the top of the canisters. The slit should be wide enough to fit the craft stick inside.

    • 8

Help your toddler stick the craft stick into the film canister. Reinforce with extra tape if necessary.
