Oceanside Middle School is located on Wright Road in Parksville and the school day starts at 9AM and finishes at 3PM. The school operates a parent advisory council and all parents are automatically admitted to the council upon their child enrolling in the school. The student support services department offers counselling, learning support and a first nation liaison worker who closely works with first nation's students. The campus features a library resource center, which the pupil can use during school hours for research on school assignments, as well as providing book and magazine reading and lending opportunities. Students also can access an online library via the school's website.
École Springwood Middle School was opened in 1996 and has 400 students in grades 6 through 8. The staff consists of 40 teachers and administration personnel. The school is located on Despard Road and is next to Springwood Park recreational facility, providing easy access to soccer fields, tennis courts and baseball batting cages. The school has an active athletics department and competes in volleyball and basketball. Lunchtime house team activities and competitions are played throughout the year, students can participate in indoor soccer, floor hockey and other minor games. After school clubs include a Springwood Middle School mountain biking club, that meets every week and is associated with a local mountain biking club. The school also offers French immersion classes.
Qualicum Beach Middle School is located on Claymore Road, in Qualicum Beach. The school closely works with the Family Resource Association, which provides counselling, educational services and early intervention programs to all families within the school district. The school has approximately 450 students and employs about 30 staff. Sports, drama and other school clubs are offered. Special English as a second language classes also are featured on the curriculum. Students can choose elective subjects in technology, science and art, in addition to core subjects.
Nearby Port Alberni belongs to School District 70 and has two middle schools; A.W.Neill Middle School on Compton Road and École E.J. Dunn. A.W.Neill Middle School has a hockey academy and an online library database for students' use. They offer a diverse selection of courses, including first nation studies, home economics and boating.
The other middle school in Port Alberni, École E.J. Dunn, is located on Argyle Street. The school offers a French immersion program and has an active school band orchestra that holds an annual Christmas concert amongst other performances during the school year. The school also participates in the Alberni Valley schools wrestling program and offers classes in visual arts.
