How to Prepare Your Child for a Middle School Dance Team

Participating in a middle school dance team offers your child many benefits. Your child will learn and enhance her dance skills, which she can take with her into high school and use when applying for high school and college dance teams later in life. She will also gain the health benefits from being involved in a physical activity and the self-confidence gained from participating in an activity about which she is passionate. Prepare your child for the dance team to help ensure her success.

      Determine how interested your child is in participating in dance team. Joining a middle school dance team is a serious commitment which will involve a lot of your child's time, energy and focus. Make sure that your child understands the commitment and has a serious interest in joining the middle school dance team before you take serious measures to prepare her for it.

      Register your child for dance classes from an early age. Many dance studios begin accepting students into their classes at age 3. Sign your child up for all types of dance classes to give him a wide breadth of knowledge and experience that he can apply to his middle school dance team later in life.

      Save money or have your child save her allowance to pay for the costs associated with the middle school dance team. Most middle school dance teams require participants to pay a fee to join, as well as pay for uniforms, travel expenses and competition fees. You and your child will need to make sure that you have the money prepared for her dance team.

      Work with your child to develop organizational and time management skills. These skills will be important for your child to utilize while he participates in the middle school dance team. He will need to learn to organize his time around dance team, homework, family and friends and other responsibilities.
