Design the door as the book cover. On a large sheet of paper, draw Red Fox and a grassy knoll. Cut out the drawing and allow students to take turns painting it. When the paint is dry, use a black marker to detail the illustrations, Dr. Seuss-style. Cut title letters using construction paper. Create a three-dimensional look by stuffing two blue socks and attaching them to the feet of Mr. Fox. Attach everything to the door.
Recreate a favorite page from the book. Almost every page has Mr. Fox and Mr. Knox involved in some form of hilarity. After the class has agreed on a page, it needs to be designed to fit the door. Each student will have the task of creating one item from that page, so when you attach it to the door it will give "Fox in Socks" a distinctive, personalized feel.
Create a smaller template of Mr. Fox and copy it. Have each student design and color a Mr. Fox. Each member of class can bring in a pair of socks; they can be mismatched or old. Using fabric paint, the students can customize their socks, hiding any old stains or simply making them more vibrant. Once the socks are dry, attach the socks to the feet of their Mr. Foxes, and attach the projects to the classroom door.
"Fox in Socks" is an entertaining tongue-twisting story. Give each student the assignment of coming up with her favorite words and phrases. Write the words and phrases on construction paper or foam, and have the students cut out the words. Each word should be a different size and color. Provide envelopes for each student to store their letters until the project is ready. Glue the words to a precut, door-sized paper and attach the paper to the door.
