Kids love jungle themes because they are full of interesting animals, such as lions, tigers and birds. To create a jungle theme, decorate shelves with animals, such as monkeys, bears, lions and birds. Add flair to chalk and bulletin boards by taping or gluing banana leaves around the edges of them. To make fake vines, twist brown and green craft paper and hang them on the ceiling. If your classroom has curtains, replace them with animal print fabric. Last but not least, add in some animal-inspired chairs. You can either buy them from online or home décor stores, or you can make some yourself by painting old chairs with an animal print design and painting animal heads on them.
A Hawaiian beach scene is another great theme for a classroom. To turn your classroom into a Hawaiian beach, gather some shower curtains with tropical designs, and use them as wallpaper. You can also attach a wall-sized poster of a beach on one of the walls or paint an image of a beach on it. Ordinary classroom chairs and rugs can be replaced with colorful beach chairs and bamboo mats. To tie it all together, add some fake palm trees. You can make your own by using polystyrene foam balls painted brown for the coconuts, and bamboo sticks for the tree trunks.
Christmas is the time of year when people try to be peaceful and have goodwill toward each other. Why not try to have that type of camaraderie for an extended period of time by decorating your classroom with a Christmas theme? To make your classroom look Christmasy, place green and red wrapping paper on all of the walls but one. On the one blank wall, add snowflake wallpaper. Hang candy canes on the ceiling, and put silver and gold bells on the door and the window panes. Also, Christmas is incomplete without a Christmas tree and presents! You can either put fake presents under the tree for decor, or you can ask everyone to give each other simple presents.
If you are having a hard time deciding which theme to go for in your classroom, remember that you don't have to just choose one theme. You can have as many themes as you have walls in your classroom if you paint a different scene on each wall. Let your students decide what kinds of scenes they would like to see, such as a sunset, a garden or outer space. Then divide them into groups and, with your supervision, have them paint each wall with a different scene.
