About Graduation Boards for Kindergarten

Celebrate your kindergarten's momentous occasion with a festive graduation board. Design a colorful display that marks the end of this first year of formal schooling and entrance into the full-scale world of elementary academics. From frilly, fancy decor to simple school themes, a graduation board is an easy way to show your kids the importance of this milestone.
  1. Significance

    • Although many children attend some form of preschool program, kindergarten is often the first true schooling experience. While graduating from kindergarten may not appear overly significant to some adults, it marks a special time in the child's life in which he transitions from the little kid who still has snack time to a big kid who goes to a full day of school. After a sometimes challenging first year of school, celebrating this academic milestone with a visual display will help the young child to reflect upon what he has learned, achieved and mastered over the past year.

    Types

    • From photo displays to colorful black letter displays, each board should be unique the individual class. The more crafty or artistic educator may want to draw or cut and paste an elaborate design featuring symbols of graduation such as diplomas, hats and school supplies. A teacher who is wary of using her artistic side can try a more straightforward option using school photos of the students or stencils. Another route to take is the pre-made board. Look for visual kits with ready-made graduation posters and designs to hang on your display.

    Wording

    • Including words on your graduation themed board has a dual role in its overall importance. Any written language inside of the classroom will help your students to develop their emerging literacy skills. This includes written or stenciled lettering on a bulletin board. Wording the board will also help the class understand the importance and theme of the display. Choose basic ideas that have a big impact or encompass the general idea such as "Our Class Graduation," "Moving On," "We Did It" or "Kindergarten Graduates." For an added touch include the class section, room number or your name.

    Things to Exclude

    • If you choose to include work, art or projects made by the class, make sure that it fits with your graduation theme. Avoid including only the work of stellar students as this will make some children feel badly about their abilities. Display school or kindergarten concept work such as crayon drawings of apples for the teacher, self-portraits of a graduation ceremony or example of name writing activities. Additionally, be careful when including photos of the students. Not all parents may have given permission for you to post public images of their children.
