How to Make a Puritan Hat Out of Paper

If you are planning Thanksgiving activities for you kindergarten or elementary school class, some simple craft projects are an excellent way to get your kids involved in the holiday. One thing you can do is help them make their own Puritan hats. You should do it first to show them how. The project will give you a chance to talk about who the Puritans were and why they came to the New World.

Gray, black and yellow construction paper
Safety scissors
Clear tape
Paste

Instructions

  Cut a disk out of the black paper for the brim of the hat. Then cut a hole on the middle for the brim to go on the head.

  Cut out a single rectangular black piece that you can bend to form sides of the hat. Tape this to the brim on the inside.

  Cut out a small circular black piece. Place it at the top and tape it on from the inside

  Cut out a narrow gray strip of construction paper to wrap around the hat. Paste this on just above the brim to form the hat band.

  Cut out a small yellow rectangle. Then cut out the center of the rectangle to leave an outline. Paste this outline onto the front of the hat band to form the buckle.
