Summer Programs for Kids in Quad Cities

The Quad Cities span Iowa and Illinois and include Davenport, Bettendorf, Moline, and East Moline/Rock Island. Kids living in, or visiting, this Midwestern region of the United States can enjoy a number of different summer programs. From museums to sports to science, the Quad Cities offer entertaining and educational warm weather fun for children of all ages.
  1. Davenport Junior Theatre

    • Iowa's Davenport Junior Theatre offers a number of summer programs for kids ages 6 through 18. The one-week long Summer Performing Arts Camp for children 6 through 13 includes instruction on all aspects of the theater. From scriptwriting through the actual acting process, children have the opportunity to learn about improvisation, musical theater, lighting techniques, costumes, and props. Children can opt for one or both of the two-week sessions, each of which concludes with a performance. Older children (ages 10 through 18) may enjoy the weeklong Puppetry Workshop and teens interested in the theater arts can enroll in the weeklong Teen Shakespeare Workshop. This summer program includes vocal instruction, understanding text, and performance.

    Augustana Vikings Volleyball Camps

    • Illinois' Augustana College is a private liberal arts school located in the Quad City of Rock Island. The school's volleyball team, the Vikings, offers general and specialized girls volleyball summer programs led by camp director (and Viking's coach) Janelle Hester. Camps are designed for girls in grades six and higher. They include a general volleyball program for students in sixth- through eight-grade, and speciality camps for setting, defensive specialist, advanced middle blocker, and advanced outside hitter for high school students. All camps will take place at the school's Carver Center gym. Fees are dependant on the specific camp and include a free T-shirt.

    Putnam Museum

    • The Putnam Museum offers full day, weeklong and one day summer camps for children in elementary and middle schools that live (or are visiting) in or near the Quad Cities area. Camps topics include American history, science, and more. Working parents or parents who need extended care can elect additional morning or afternoon day care. Sibling and museum member discounts are offered. Registration may be made via the museum's website.
