Boot Camp Boarding Schools

Boot camp boarding schools are designed to help parents with out of control children teach those children how to behave and succeed in life. Parents send both boys and girls to live at these schools. Some of them are extremely militaristic and focus on drills and discipline. Others take a more therapeutic approach. These schools are private schools not affiliated with the United States military.
  1. Glenwood School

    • Glenwood school is a military school open to grade-school-age boys and girls of every race, ethnicity and religion. This school specializes in serving children from low income, single-family homes. Students wear uniforms and participate in both daily marches and an after school drill team. Glenwood is heavily subsidized by private donors, so low income families can afford to send children who require extra discipline to succeed there. Glenwood does not accept children with severe behavioral problems, children who are more than two years behind in their schoolwork, children with juvenile records or handicapped children. Glenwood teaches children four basic skills including following instructions, accepting "no" for an answer, accepting criticism or consequences and disagreeing appropriately.

    Shepherds Hill Farm

    • Shepherds Hill Farm is a combination boot camp wilderness therapy program set in northeast Georgia. Shepherds Hill is distinguished from other boot camp programs in that it relies primarily on the teachings of Christianity to lead troubled children into new directions. Shepherds Hill welcomes teenage boys and girls who are having trouble in school or who are exhibiting problems with drugs, violence or sexuality. Teens are removed from the influence of television, music and movies and are provided a biblical worldview. Teens also participate in therapeutic and disciplinary activities. Shepherds Hill incorporates an equine therapy program in which teens learn responsibility working with horses. Each student is assigned a horse to work with for the duration of his stay.
