Motivate parents of Title I participating students to be directly involved in and support all Title I school activities. The committee will also work together with other school committees, administration and students' parents for the betterment of education. The committee is responsible for getting Title I parents involved in the review and improvement of Title I programs in the school.
The committee will guide parents of active Title I students to develop skills and broaden their own education. The committee will lead the parents to attend meetings, conferences and activities that will guide them to be active supporters of their children's education. The knowledge the parents will receive through these experiences will also expand their own education and awareness of today's education challenges.
Have discussions with parents of students in the Title I programs to find out their questions, concerns, suggestions, and opinions about present and future program changes. These perspectives will be shared by the committee with the school staff and administration involved with the programs.
Collect opinions from other parents of Title I students about the best use of the budgeted funds that parents can choose to use. The percentage parents can direct the use of is between 1 and 5 percent. A budget and a spending plan will be developed by the committee after the needs communicated by parents are considered and evaluated.
Welcome letters will be sent out by the Title I advisory committee to eligible future members of the parent-teacher association at P.S. 159Q. Parents and legal guardians of Title I students are qualified to become members of the group. Each parent or guardian that is a member of the parent-teacher association can vote once about each issue brought for a vote in advisory committee meetings.
