New Futures is an alternative school for pregnant and parenting students. Enrollment is voluntary and registration takes place every nine weeks when school is in session, with proof of pregnancy or parenting required at the time of registration. In addition to classrooms, clinics and childcare facilities are available on campus. ESL and Special Education is also available.
Desert Willow Family School is an alternative school in the Albuquerque Public School District. It is comprised of a half-day of instruction in the classroom followed by a half-day of instruction at home by the family, essentially a combination of public schooling and home schooling. According to its website, the schools "helps parents take an active role in the education of their children."
Nex+Gen Academy is a magnet school that offers a curriculum that stresses technology and skills in the twenty-first century. Each student has access to a computer with Internet as a way of learning rather than depending on teachers and textbooks as the primary source of knowledge.
Coronado Elementary School is a magnet school for elementary-age children, offering a "dual language curriculum." This system uses what the school's website calls a "90-10 model," which starts off with 90 percent of instruction in Spanish, and 10 percent English during Kindergarten. The percentage of English spoken is gradually increased until in fourth grade, students receive half of their instruction in Spanish and the other half in English.
