The ITT Technical Institute in Albuquerque, offers a bachelor's degree program in graphic design to educate students to move into a career in printing, layout, publishing and the design fields. It includes courses in graphic illustration, graphic design for the web, new media and a host of other topics. The program has hands-on training using computer systems, page layout software and printers, along with other graphic design equipment.
The Art Center Design College offers a variety of programs in design, including graphic design. Student learn how to design websites, brochures, magazines and other visual advertising or messaging. Upon completion of the graphics design major, the student receives a Bachelor of Arts degree. Courses included in the pursuit of this degree include the history of graphics design, grid layout, typography, graphic design concepts and an internship with a local graphic design company.
The University of New Mexico offers a graphic design certificate program through their Continuing Education division. The program concentrates on design and production of visual materials such as brochures, ads and posters. Level One is a graphic design and print certificate; Level Two is an advanced certificate for graphic design and print. The third certificate is for basic graphic design.
Sante Fe University of Art and Design, about an hour from Albuquerque, offers students a practical course in graphic design leading to a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. The use of digital tools plays a prominent part in the coursework as well as digital image-making tools. The introduction of the innovative techniques course has broadened the graphic design program, updating the degree program to include new innovations in graphic design. Design theory is another course which will enhance the skills of the graphic design student.
