Honor the teachers at your school with a red carpet walk of honor. Get a donation of red carpet if you can. Place gold stars on the carpet with each teacher's name. As teachers arrive for the day, have students, parents and administrators line the red carpet and applaud them as they enter the building. The red carpet can lead to the teachers lounge, where breakfast is awaiting them on this special day of honor.
Have students volunteer to shower the teachers with flowers as they arrive for the day.
Ask students to write notes of appreciation to their favorite teacher. Select notes to read during morning announcements during the week that includes Teacher Appreciation Day. Be sure that each teacher in the building is included during the announcements. Create a bulletin board to display notes and art work honoring the school's teachers.
In middle or high school, enlist the help of students to wash teachers' cars or windshields during their free period. Provide buckets, soft cloths and appropriate cleaners for the students to use. Be sure to provide adult supervision. Announce this project to the teachers ahead of time in case there are teachers who wish to opt out of this act of appreciation.
If the school district policy allows, parents or administrators can take over teachers' classrooms for an hour to allow the teachers the opportunity to go out to lunch.
Parents provide an appreciation lunch for teachers. Set up the teachers lounge with tablecloths and decorations. Include fresh flowers on the tables, allowing each teacher to take a flower from the vases when she leaves the lunchroom. Students and parents volunteer to serve their teachers.
