How to See If a Book Is an Accelerated Reader

The Accelerated Reader (AR) program was designed to help test children in grades K-12 on their reading comprehension. With the help of their parents, teachers and school librarians, students are able to select any AR book of their approved reading level and take a quiz on the book once they have read it. Finding an appropriate book for your child to read is as simple as searching an Accelerated Reader database.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to arbookfind.com to open the Accelerated Reader database. Click the "Quick Search" tab on the front page to access the search function. Enter the title of the book you are searching for and press the "Go" button.

    • 2

Review the search results page and check the description of your chosen book. Confirm that a rating for the "Interest Level" (IL) and "Book Level" (BL) exist to be certain your selection is an AR book. Check the "AR Pts" value to determine how much credit your child will receive for reading it.

Click the "Add to BookBag" button underneath the title, then click the "BookBag" logo on the top left sidebar. Select the "Download" link to view a PDF file containing the information about your chosen book. Print the page and discuss the book with your child's teacher to determine whether it is an appropriate selection.
