A handmade gift by your child to his teacher is a gift from the heart. This is one of the most inexpensive, yet valuable, gifts your child's teacher will receive. Using an 8 1/2-by-11-inch sheet of card stock, have your child draw a picture for his teacher using markers and bright colors that will stand out when it is hung on a wall. Ask your child to sign his name on the paper and put the date on the corner so that the teacher always remembers who this gift was from. Purchase a frame and place the artwork inside after it is completely dry. Wrap the frame and have your child give the present to his teacher on the last day of school.
A thank you card for a great year with a couple of movie passes in it is an ideal gift for a teacher. With the school year ending and more free time to spend with her family or friends, movie passes are a thoughtful gift that a teacher is sure to appreciate. Have your child write a personal note to the teacher in the card expressing gratitude and perhaps making note of a special memory your child will always hold of that teacher. While the movie passes may be gone in no time, the thank you note card will surely be kept forever.
The contents of a gift basket are rarely as important as the time and thought put into arranging and decorating the basket for the teacher's appeal. Ask your child what types of small things her teacher likes, such as chocolate bars, fruit-scented lotions or silver jewelry. Take your child on a miniature shopping trip to find these items at dollar stores or other inexpensive outlets. Place all of the items on tissue or cotton in a regular wicker basket or small plastic bucket, then let your child wrap the basket in clear cellophane. Tie the cellophane at the top with ribbon of any color and even attach a small note from your child as a tag.
Most children love being able to help out in the kitchen and the reward of seeing their teacher's face when they give them a home-baked gift will be well worth the project. A loaf of banana bread that you and your child made together can be wrapped in plastic wrap. Have your child decorate a paper bag with markers and put the loaf of bread in the paper bag, tape the open end down and put a bow at the top to be given to the teacher. Alternatively, make your child's teacher some homemade cookies and put them in plastic sandwich bags. Use ribbon to tie the top of the sandwich bags and add a tag that your child will sign.
