Read the student test results for each subject from the summary form that the state provides, including the numerical total scale score and performance level. The possible performance levels are "not met," "met" or "exemplary" for each subject. Students who receive a "met" designation achieved the grade level standard. Students with an "exemplary" designation exceeded the average score for the grade level, and students with a "not met" designation did not score high enough to meet the grade level standard.
Evaluate the numerical score for each subject on the South Carolina Department of Education website, which provides ranges for the different performance levels. The numerical scales vary slightly between subjects and grades; however, the general trend is 300 to 599 points for the "not met" category, 600 to 640 through 675 for the "met" category, with numbers above 675 for the "exemplary" category.
Read the extra statements provided with each test score to determine the strengths and weaknesses of your student as identified by the test. The extra statements may also provide information on additional study areas that will benefit your student's performance in the future.
Find the Lexile range for your student in the English language arts results section. The Lexile score is an indication of the reading level of the student and is provided as a number or range of numbers followed by an L.
