Look at the bar located along the top of the test results page. The bars represent a scale that shows the raw score in math, reading and English/language arts. The score can range from 150 to 450. A score 350 or above exceeds the state standards; scores from 300 to 349 mean the standards are met; anything below indicates that the student did not meet standards.
Read the Quartile percentage. The quartile is distribution of the scores into four groups. A student in the first quartile, or Q1, is in the lowest 25 percent of the scores. Q4 is in the top 25 percent of the scores.
Read the Performance Level Descriptors to find out what your child has learned. If the scores indicate that the child met the state standards, then the performance level descriptors would indicate that he is reading on level for a first-grader, able to break apart words into syllables and group them into word families. For those who exceed the standards, reading performance level descriptors would indicate that he is reading fluently and above his grade level.
Read the mean score to find out how your student performed in comparison to everyone else. The mean score is the average score for all first-graders in the state. If your child scored higher than the mean, your child's score is above average. If the score is lower, then it is below average.
