How to Make a Chart of Classroom Helpers for an Elementary Class

Elementary school students love to help their teacher out with chores around the classroom. In order to keep their helpers organized, many teachers create a job chart to use in their classrooms. Students are assigned to different chores in the classroom periodically, and are responsible for completing their tasks on a daily or weekly basis. This helps the teacher out, since they will not have to do the jobs completed by the students, and it teaches the students lessons in responsibility.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a list of all of the chores you would like your students to complete. Use tasks such as board eraser, door holder, line leader, errand runner, bulletin board helper, and bookshelf monitor.

    • 2

Write a list of these chores on a piece of poster board, a bulletin board, or any other highly visible surface in your classroom.

    • 3

Write each student's name on an index card.

    • 4

Use a push pin to put a student's name next to the chore he is assigned to complete.

    • 5

Decide how often you will rotate your students' chores.

    • 6

Remove the push pin from the index card to reassign chores to different students.
