How to Create a Jeopardy Game in a Spanish Class

More than just a form of entertainment, games are an effective teaching tool. Games grab students' attention, increase confidence, present information in an engaging manner and make learning enjoyable. If you're a Spanish teacher and you're looking for a means of reinforcing content related to the subject, consider creating a Jeopardy game. This classic quiz game can be used to test students' knowledge of the Spanish language in a fun and friendly competition, allowing them to review information that they've learned. Play Jeopardy as a review for an exam, or use it as an informal assessment of students' Spanish skills.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide the titles of the categories for the game. For example, you may include "Spanish Grammar," "Spanish Vocabulary" and "English-to-Spanish Translation." Write the title of each category in bold print on an index card.

    • 2

Hang the category title cards on a wall or a chalkboard in a horizontal row. Use tape to secure the title cards to the wall or chalkboard.

    • 3

Determine questions to ask that pertain to each category. Decide how many questions you want to ask and generate an equal amount of questions for each category. On the TV game show, each Jeopardy category has five clues of increasing difficulty, and players must provide an answer in the form of a question.

    • 4

Use a marker to print the questions in bold print on index cards.

    • 5

Print points on the back of each question card. Place lower point values on easier questions and higher point values on more difficult questions.

    • 6

Hang the question cards with tape in vertical columns underneath the corresponding category cards. Hang the cards so that the point values are facing forward and so that they progress from lower to higher point value.

    • 7

Have players select a category and a point value. Remove the selected card from the wall or board and read the question or clue. The player who answers correctly first earns the amount of points indicated on the card. The player who collects the most points wins the game.
