How to Create College Catalogs

Timing and information is everything when creating a college catalog. You will need to be very organized and have plenty of communication with the instructors of the college to put a college catalog together. With a schedule, organized templates and graphic design experience you can create a informative college catalog.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a basic design or template that you will use to put the catalog together. There are many fill-in-the-blank templates available on word-processing programs, or you can start from scratch and design your own template. Your graphic design knowledge will be a deciding factor in your decision.

    • 2

Set a schedule for the catalog to be completed. Because college catalogs are usually done each term you will want to start putting the next catalog together a few terms ahead of time. This gives you time to get the information from the instructors and get it printed in time to go out well before the term starts. This will allow students to register and enroll in the classes available in a timely manner.

    • 3

Collect the information from the instructors. Create a template for each instructor to fill in. The template needs to include the class title, description, supply list, class credits (if applicable), times and dates of class, location or room number of the class and cost of class. Some classes will be the same for each term making it easy for you and the instructors.

Create the copy that will be sent to the printer. Fill in the templates with the information, photos and graphics to create a copy for the printer to print and deliver. Having testimonials from past students is also helpful. Include a registration page and directions to register online or in person.

    • 5

Proofread the final copy. Send each instructor a copy of the final page that their class is featured on to have them proofread and sign off on it. This allows for last minute changes and corrections and ensures that each class is correct in the catalog. The catalog should also be proofread for any spelling, punctuation and clerical errors.

Send the final copy to the printer to be printed and sent out to prospective students before the registration period begins.
