How to Create a Millionaire Game

"Who Wants to be a Millionaire" became a popular television game show in 1999. Contestants answered a series of multiple-choice questions with each question increasing in value until the million-dollar question is reached. Since then, the game show format has become a popular tool for teachers to use as part of classroom review games. Pre-created templates for PowerPoint versions are available online, but it is fairly easy for teachers to create their own versions of the game.

Instructions

  1. PowerPoint Millionaire Game

    • 1

Write 15 multiple-choice review questions that cover the information. Each question should have four answer choices. Include one throwaway choice for each question, two likely choices and one correct answer. If you would like to include more than 15 questions, you may create more than one game.

    • 2

Open Microsoft PowerPoint and choose to create a new presentation. Click on the "Design" tab at the top of the screen and click on the arrow next to "Backgrounds." From this screen, choose to fill the screen with a solid fill. Click on the drop-down menu next to "Color" and click on the color you desire. A typical "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" game has a royal blue or navy blue background. Choose "Apply to All" to make this background appear on future slides.

    • 3

Type the phrase "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" into the title slide. Click on the "Design" tab and choose "Fonts" to find a font style and color for the game. A white text in a simple font such as Arial works best for this game.

    • 4

      Create a new slide listing the 15 different dollar amounts for each question. List the dollar amounts in the following order: $100, $200, $300, $500, $1,000, $2,000, $4,000, $8,000, $16,000, $32,000, $64,000, $125,000, $250,000, $500,000, $1,000,000.

    • 5

Insert a new slide with a title box and main text box. Type the first question in the title box. Add the four answer choices to the main text box. Make sure each answer choice is typed on a separate line. Highlight the four answer choices and click on the "Format" tab, followed by "Bullets" and "Numbers." Select the "Numbering" tab and choose an option that labels the questions with A,B,C and D. At the bottom of the slide, insert a text box with the phrase "50/50."

    • 6

Click on the question slide in the side panel to highlight it. Right click on the slide and hit "Ctrl" + "C" to duplicate the slide. Hit "Ctrl" + "V" twice to create a duplicate of the slide. Delete two of the incorrect answer choices from the duplicate slide to create a 50/50 question option.

    • 7

Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for each multiple-choice question.

    • 8

Create two new slides. On one slide type the word "incorrect" and on the other type the word "correct." At the bottom of each slide, include the phrase "return to main screen."

    • 9

Click on each question slide individually to insert hyperlinks. One by one, highlight each answer choice and click on "Insert" and "Hyperlink." Under "Link to," select "Place in this document." Click on slide titles and choose to link the answer to either the "correct" or "incorrect" slide. Do the same for the 50/50 slides.

    • 10

Create hyperlinks to connect each dollar amount on the dollar amount slide to a different question so that when the amount is clicked on, the correct question appears. On the "incorrect" and "correct" slides, hyperlink the "return to main screen" text to the dollar amount slide.
