How to Create a Unicorn Game

Unicorns are considered a product of human imagination and mythology by some and an extinct species by others. Some versions of the Bible mention the existence of unicorns in the book of Job 39, 1-12. They do appear in myths and legends of various cultures as well and have fascinated the imaginations of young and old alike. That is why they make a great focal point or theme for an educational yard game.

  1. Unicorn Horseshoe Trivia

    • 1

Set the unicorn head targets at opposing ends of the playing field or yard, about 20 yards apart. Each player has six rings of different colors. Each color designates a topic; for example, red is history, blue is science, green is geography, white is Bible and world religions, brown is literature and pink is music.

    • 2

Create question cards with six questions and answers on each card. Players will read a question out loud for the opponent to answer. The opponent attempts to answer the question. If the answer is correct the player advances one yard. They have the option of throwing a ring or answering another question. If they throw the ring and it goes around the Unicorn's horn they get the number of points equal to the distance in yards away they attempted the throw. If they miss the throw they must read the next question to the opponent.

    • 3

Keep answering questions from the trivia categories to make your throwing distances shorter. Each time you make a ring fall on the cone of the Unicorn, add points based on the yardage from the spot you made the throw to the cone.

    • 4

Continue playing until one player has made all six rings, then total up all points. The winner is the player with the most points accumulated during the game.
