How to Do a Nice HTML Newsletter in Evolution

Maintaining an attractive and usable e-mail newsletter allows companies to keep their customers informed of the latest products and promotions while developing a strong brand identity. The large variety of e-mail readers and e-mail reading preferences can make it difficult to control the appearance of HTML e-mails for all users. Evolution is an e-mail client popular for its ability to handle large volumes of e-mail traffic.

Instructions

    • 1

Design the HTML code for your newsletter in a plain text-editor such as Notepad. Use a standard one- or two-column design with a header, your message and the footer text. Modify a template from an e-mail service such as Campaign Monitor if you are unfamiliar with HTML coding.

    • 2

Save the text file as your master template. Insert the text of your current newsletter in the appropriate part of your code. Link to images hosted on your website with a static address to prevent corruption. Save the new text file as the issue of your newsletter.

    • 3

Open Evolution. Confirm that messages will format in HTML. Click on the "Tools" menu and select "Settings." Click "Composer Preferences" and check that "Format Messages in HTML" is selected under "Default Behavior."

    • 4

Click on the "Compose New Message" button in Evolution. Insert the contents from the issue-specific text file of your newsletter into the body of the e-mail.

    • 5

Preview the message to verify how the HTML displays. Change any code that does not display the way you want it to. Repeat until the newsletter appears correctly.

    • 6

Add your recipients, then click "Send."
