How to Write a Pack Newsletter

Since its foundation in 1910, the Cub Scout program aims to develop character, physical fitness and service in the young scouts. Scouts participate in pack activities through local dens run by volunteer leaders picked by the pack committee. Den leaders carry out the pack program of activities in their den and help organize several pack-wide activities throughout the year. Starting a pack newsletter helps you make sure all dens are on the same page and working as a cohesive den.

Instructions

    • 1

Download or create a newsletter template. The Boy Scouts of America provide a template for den and pack leaders. Create a newsletter template if you are more familiar with word processing software and want to customize the layout.

    • 2

Gather together news items. Successful newsletters present interesting information in an easily accessible format and pack newsletters address the den leaders, scout parents and scouts. Include information such as upcoming events, summaries of the prior month's activities and announcements of scout achievements such as badges and ranks earned.

    • 3

Fill out any extra space with interesting facts, things to know, or frequently asked questions. Ensure that all the allotted room in the newsletter contains something of interest to pack members.

    • 4

Print out and read over a copy of the newsletter. Check for spelling errors and misused words. Ask someone else to read over the newsletter to look for errors. Repeat the process after correcting any errors to ensure a flawless final product.
