How to Use a Scanner to Read Bubble Sheets

In the past, expensive scanners were needed to read bubble sheets that were made exclusively by the bubble sheet provider. Optical Mark Readers, also known as OMR scanners, have been used since the 1960's to read lottery tickets. With advances in modern technology, any image scanner can read the bubble sheets with the right software. All you need to do is create a bubble sheet using the software manufacturer's templates and feed the bubble sheet into the scanner.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the bubble sheet software. Select a bubble sheet template and edit the bubble sheet.

    • 2

Save the document and print it. The software automatically saves a copy of the document for scoring purposes.

    • 3

Distribute the bubble sheet. Collect the marked bubble sheets from the students or participants.

    • 4

Open the program and scan the bubble sheets. The software creates an assessment data file that is used for scoring. The assessment data file converts the bubble sheet into text format to be used to score the document.

    • 5

Choose the template that you used and enter the correct answers into the software. Analyze your assessment data file. You have now used a scanner to read bubble sheets.
