Use a lid to draw two circles on a piece of printer paper, using a ruler to align them with each other. Draw one line on each side of the two circles, making a racetrack shape. Erase all the lines inside the racetrack. Draw a centered, thin rectangle with one long side touching the end of the racetrack shape. Draw the desired hieroglyphs inside of the cartouche. Cut the cartouche out and glue it to a piece of construction paper.
Make a wire frame in the shape of an oval racetrack. In a bowl, mix equal parts white glue and water. Cut up printer paper into 1/2-inch-wide strips. Dip the paper strips into the glue and water mixture then place them over the wire frame. Cover the frame with two layers of papier-mache. Set aside the papier-mache covered frame until it is completely dry. Paint the cartouche the color you want and let it dry. Then paint the hieroglyphs or other designs you want.
Cut up sheets of construction paper in various colors into geometric shapes. Alternately use magazines and newspapers for the shapes. Draw a cartouche on a piece of paper and draw outlines of the hieroglyphs you want to use. Glue on the pieces of paper, using one color for the cartouche background and various colors for the hieroglyphs.

Use the brown paper as a stencil to draw a cartouche on the yellow paper, using a pencil. Remove the brown construction paper. Draw hieroglyphs on the yellow construction paper's cartouche, and cut the hieroglyphs out. Apply glue to the back of the yellow construction paper and set it on a piece of green construction paper. Apply glue to the back of the brown construction paper and place it on top of the yellow construction paper. The completed craft displays a piece of brown paper that frames a yellow cartouche with green hieroglyphs.
