Set up the work area. Lay down newspaper where you will be creating the splatter paint art. Given that this can be a messy technique, protecting the work surface means that clean-up will be much easier. You may also want to wear a coverall of some sort and use protective gloves to cover your hands; your choice of protective gear will largely depend on the techniques you select for making the paint splatter art.
Set up your paper or canvas. They can be hung on the wall, displayed on an easel, laid on the floor or placed on a table. It is important, however, that you have enough room to physically splatter paint onto the paper or canvas.
Pour plenty of paint on your palette or onto a paper plate. Dip your brush -- or paintbrush, toothbrush or any other item you have chosen to use -- into the paint. Use your fingers to flick the paint from the bristles. You can also throw the paint directly with your hands by putting your hands in the paint and then throwing the paint onto the paper or canvas. Another option is to fill water balloons with different colors of paint and attach them to the canvas. You can then throw darts at the water balloons in order to release the paint onto the canvas. Have fun creating new ways of splattering paint on your painting.
Paint with different colors. Consider using complimentary colors for your color scheme. Try out different color combinations to find the ones you like. Continue to add splatters of paint to the canvas or paper until you are satisfied with the piece. There are no minimum or maximum amounts of splatters required.
Allow the painting to dry. At this point you can add more splatters if you want. Also, consider adding glitter or any other medium you want to the painting. When you are finally satisfied, your splatter paint art is done.
