How to Remove Paint Over Art

Art represents a variety of works; ceramics, paintings, sculptures, woven pieces and fabric designs. People get paint over art work accidentally or due to poor storage. The various types of paint stains, water based, acrylic and oil based, require different solutions to remove. It is advisable to act immediately in removing a paint stain for better results.

  • Stained art pieces
  • Piece of clean cloth
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Clean paper towel
  • Acetone
  • Needle
  • Soy-based gel paint remover

      Establish the art piece you want to clean. Place it on a clean surface.

      Dub the paper towel in acetone and rub it on the area with paint on your ceramic pieces. Scrape the paint off first using a needle if the paint specs are thicker for the acetone to work. Wipe off the solution with a dry towel.

      Soak the stained area on your fabric with the Rubbing Alcohol using a paper towel. Scratch the paint off using your fingernail or a coffee stirrer.

      Wash and dry the fabric immediately to help remove more of the stain.

      Scrape the dried paint off your woven works such as mats and carpets using a blunt knife. Soak the stain with vanish remover and use a paper towel to blot it out.

      Stain the area with soapy water and dry it with clean paper towels. Rinse the area thoroughly with clean water to remove more of the stain.

      Place absorbent materials to dry the spot.

      Apply the gel onto the painted area of your sculpture and leave it for a while. Gently scrape off the paint and rub it with a dry paper towel.
