How to Teach Islamic Art

Today's political climate has increased student demand for classes about the Islamic world. Art history departments are seeking professionals who can teach courses on Islamic art. Designing a course covering mosques, non-religious buildings, metalwork, calligraphy and handicrafts from Morocco to Indonesia is a challenge. In addition, the instructor must teach students about a diverse category of art while also providing insight into a number of unique cultures and civilizations that produced Islamic art throughout history. Through good planning and the continuous use of images, an instructor can successfully introduce students to the world of Islamic art.
