How to Make a Simulated Chocolate Candy Box for a Bulletin Board

Bulletin boards help teachers keep their classroom organized and at the same time, create a vibrant, stimulating atmosphere for learning. Bulletin boards can be used as a calendar, for special assignments, for achievements or for basic day-to-day information. Themed bulletin boards can reinforce current lessons, books, events, places or anything else being taught, making the bulletin board an integral part of the classroom. Candy-themed bulletin boards are fun, festive and can be combined with a variety of different thematic units.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a rectangle of cardboard about 2 feet wide and 3 feet tall.

    • 2

Draw or paint a rectangle on the piece of cardboard so that it is perfectly centered with a 2 inch margin on all four sides.

    • 3

Cover the inside rectangle with black tissue paper or fabric.

    • 4

Cut pockets out of the same paper or fabric you use for the box background. Cut one pocket for each student or day.

    • 5

Glue the side and bottom edges of the pocket to the inside rectangle. Position the pockets so that they are evenly spaced and form rows like the inside of a candy box.

    • 6

Glue gold or red tissue paper along the margin at the edge of the cardboard to represent the tissue paper within a candy box.

    • 7

Cut a second rectangle of cardboard the same size as the first.

    • 8

Decorate the second rectangle with markers, paint, construction paper or ribbon to look like the lid of a box of candy.

    • 9

Use a hole punch to punch two holes in the top of both cardboard rectangles, on hole in each corner.

    • 10

Attach the two cardboard rectangles together by threading red ribbon through the holes and securing them with a bow. The pockets should be on the inside so that you can lift the candy box lid to view them.

    • 11

Hang the bulletin board on a wall, displayed closed or with the lid propped open. Insert student names, assignments, days or other information in the bulletin board pockets.
