Paper Rainforest Tree Craft

Create a rainforest in the classroom. Have the children create trees using paper and their handprints. When you put the trees together, the class will have created a forest. This project presents teachable moments in showing the different parts of a rainforest and how one small contribution by many can have a big result.

Instructions

    • 1

Give the children paper towel rolls and ask them to color them with markers. The towel rolls will be the tree trunks.

    • 2

Help children trace their handprints on the green paper. These will be the leaves on the trees. Six handprints are enough for a full canopy.

    • 3

Cut out the handprint leaves and glue or tape them to one end of the paper towel roll. This is the top of the tree.

    • 4

Tear newspaper pages in half and crumple them. Stuff the crumpled newspaper inside the paper towel rolls. Leave about one inch empty at the bottom of the tree.

    • 5

Cut four one-inch slits in the bottom of the trunk. Fold flaps out and glue or tape them to the poster paper to hold the tree upright.

    • 6

Keep adding trees to the poster paper to create a paper rainforest.
