Have each child inspect the elements that make up a comic. Most comics have a clear beginning, climax and ending. Show the children how this is true both for comic books and for strip or even one-panel comics.
Allow children to come up with characters and a basic plot for their comic. Have children start with a strip comic, which they can expand later if they choose. Instruct children to write down their details and characters.
Instruct the children to come up with a plot for their comics. They can choose from an action-based comic, such as Superman and Spiderman, or a humor-based comic, such as the strips in the Sunday paper.
Show the children how to block the story per frame. Children should make everything in the frame explain the actions that the characters are doing, or the words that they are saying. Have the children place the introduction in the first frame, the climax in the second and the resolution in the third frame.
Have the children read their comics in front of the class. Hang the comics around the classroom walls for closer inspection after reading.
