How to Make Goop Mixture for Children

Whether you call it flubber, slime, gak or goop, this slimy substance is a popular science experiment among young children. The ingredients needed for this project are easy to locate, and the step-by-step instructions make it simple for even preschool-aged children to participate in this activity. Older children can use this experiment to practice measuring and science experiments, while younger children can use this activity to practice following directions and taking turns.

Things You'll Need

  • White glue
  • Measuring spoons
  • Paper cups
  • Water
  • Borax laundry detergent
  • Food coloring
  • Aprons or smocks

Instructions

      Measure out 2 tbsp. of white glue and 2 tbsp. of water. Add both ingredients to a large paper cup.

      Have the children choose what color they want their goop to be and add two drops of that color food coloring, ¼ cup of water and ¾ tsp. of borax laundry detergent to a separate cup.

      Stir both paper cups separately. Measure out 2 tbsp. from the second cup mixture and add it to the first.

      Stir the added ingredients to the first cup until the substance turns to goop.
