Review a sample data table. Viewing a sample data table will help you see how to organize the data for the heights of boys and girls. Using this sample you can then draw your own data table on a piece of paper. The table should be divided into two sections with separate columns labels "Girls" and "Boys" along the top. In each section a row can be created to note individual participants' heights.
Gather height information by measuring each boy and girl in the group. Note these heights down on a piece of paper, so they can be transfered to the data table. If you are working with a large group, you can divide the boy and girls into smaller subgroups and have them measure each other. The data for all of the heights of the participants should then be listed on a whiteboard or posted where everyone can see the list.
Transfer the height data onto the table. Write the total height for each participant next to his or her name. You can choose to list the information from tallest to shortest or you can place the list of names in alphabetical order. If participants in the group are making individual data tables, instruct them exactly how to list the height data.
Review and interpret the data. Students can now read the data table and answer specific questions and analyze the data they gathered. For example, students can be asked to identify who is the tallest and who is the shortest the group. Data tables can also be used to do simple math problems, such as calculating the total height of boys or girls in the group, or the average height of each group.
