How to Convert Odds to Percentages Using a Calculator

Odds and percentages can relate to the probability that a certain outcome will occur. Gambling, sports statistics and medical prognoses deal with odds and percentages in various ways. Odds are usually written as a certain chance out of a whole (as in a one-in-100 chance). Percentages are numbers with a percent sign that indicate a fraction of the whole, which is 100. You can easily convert between odds and percentages with a calculator.

Instructions

    • 1

Enter the number "100" into your calculator.

    • 2

      Press the divide button.

    • 3

Key in the second number in the set of odds. For example, if the probability is 1 in 4 (or 1:4), key in the number 4.

    • 4

Press the "=" button. In this example, you should see the number 25, since 100 divided by 4 is 25.

    • 5

      Press the multiplication button.

    • 6

Key in the first number in the set of odds. In this example, you would press the number "1."

    • 7

Press the "=" button to view your answer. In this example, the answer would be 25.

    • 8

Add a percent sign if you are writing your answer. In this case you would write "25%," since the odds of 1 in 4 are equal to a 25 percent chance of an event occurring.
