Cardinal numbers express a quantity of a set of objects or numbers. Learning to calculate cardinal numbers is as simple as learning to count. Parents often expose children as young as infants or toddlers to cardinal number concepts when they count objects aloud to their children. The computation of cardinal numbers is the foundation upon which other basic mathematical procedures, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, are constructed.
