If you take a middle school, high school or college math course, you probably will have to calculate the modal value of a set of numbers. The modal value, or "mode," refers to the numeric value that occurs most frequently within a set. This type of data is often paired with other information concerning sets of numbers, such as finding the mean and median. The process of determining the modal value requires basic math skills.
Instructions

-
1
Write down all of the numbers within the set.
-
2
Arrange the numbers in order from least to greatest.
-
-
3
Circle set numbers that are listed multiple times.
-
4
Determine the modal value by finding the number that appears the most number of times. For example, consider the following set of numbers: 3, 4, 6, 7, 7, 8. In this set, the only number that appears twice is 7. Therefore, this number is the modal value for the set.
