How to Convert Units of Measurement With a Calculator

Dealing with measurements is a task that you encounter in many areas of life such as cooking, building, landscaping, math courses in school and business transactions. You may need to change from one unit of measurement to another if you are converting between the metric system and U.S. system. You also may need to perform measurement conversions if you measure something in one form, such as in inches, but you need to provide a figure in another form, such as in feet. Although you can perform conversions by hand, using a calculator makes the task easier and quicker.

  Input the original measurement into your calculator. For instance, you might have a measurement of 120 inches.

  Press the multiply button on your calculator, which should be marked with "*" or "x."

  Enter the conversion factor. Conversion factors are numbers that can be multiplied into an original measurement to reach the equivalent measurement in different units. If you don't know a conversion factor, consult a table.

  Press the equal sign (=) to view the answer. For example, if you were converting 120 inches to centimeters, you would type in 120 * 2.54, which is the conversion factor. The answer will be 304.8 cm.
