How to Convert Tenths to Minutes

Many companies use database programs to track their employees' hours and to calculate paychecks. These programs do not accept minutes as input. Instead, users must convert minutes to 10ths of hours. The conversion takes a bit of mathematics, as there are 60 minutes in an hour. It is also important to note that the conversion is not exact. For example, the conversion of 10 minutes and 14 minutes yields the same result because of rounding.

Instructions

    • 1

Multiply the 10th of an hour by 60. The resulting value is the approximate number of minutes. The value is approximate as rounding occurs during calculations. For example, 2/10 of an hour could be anywhere between 9 and 14 minutes.

    • 2

Navigate to an online conversion chart. Locate the 10th on the chart to retrieve the corresponding number of minutes.

    • 3

Navigate to an online converter. Enter the 10th of an hour into the "Hour" box. The minute conversion is automatically generated in the "Minutes" box. Once again, this minute value is an approximation because of rounding.
